The School of Public Health at JCSM is a highly state-of-the-art Public Health Institute located in one of the most vibrant and culturally diverse areas in the country, 

The School of Public Health provides many opportunities for education, research, and community involvement to advance the state of knowledge in different health disciplines and to improve the population’s health.

The School of Public Health provides both undergraduate and graduate education in population-based health disciplines to prepare students for professional health and public health careers, and to enhance the knowledge and abilities of current health professionals.

Opportunities for education extend beyond the formal classroom through interactions with faculty on research projects and opportunities to become actively engaged in local and regional community service activities.

We enjoys special collaborative arrangements with the School of Postgraduate Studies at the James Cook School of Medicine to offer MPH, Ph.D. and DrPH programs.


OUR PROGRAMS

THE 4-YEAR BACHELOR OF PUBLIC HEALTH (BPH) COURSE

The 4-Year Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) program seeks to fulfil the Department of Public Health's vision "Healthy communities partnered with responsive population health systems." The BPH program develops leaders in evidence-based practice who advance the public’s health


The program values professional and academic integrity and ethics, collegiality, engagement with the community, and responsiveness and innovation in its pursuit of attaining the highest possible standards of health and well-being.


The Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) program is designed to prepare scholar-practitioners with knowledge and skills in the core concepts of public health including health behavior, research and statistics in health, environmental health, epidemiology, and health administration, as well as in the planning, evaluation, organization, and conduct of community and public health services.  


The planned course of study adopts an interdisciplinary focus and includes the development of tailored skills through the successful completion of a minor and experiential learning. 


The degree will prepare students who are interested in pursuing health-related careers in health promotion, program delivery; health communication, community organization, and behavior change for entry-level to mid-level positions in service and research in health departments, public health agencies, community-based organizations, outreach education programs, hospitals, private health organizations, and corporate wellness settings.  


The BPH program is designed to appeal to students with interests in “population” rather than “individual” health

THE 3-YEAR BACHELOR OF PUBLIC HEALTH (BPH) COURSE

The 3-Year Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) program at the James Cook of Medicine is a graduate entry/transfer program for students with majors in Biological Sciences/students with a minimum of 90 credits hours from an accredited University, seeking transfer into the James Cook of Medicine. 

All Bachelor’s degrees offered by James Cook School of Medicine requires a minimum of 120 credit hours and a minimum of 30 credit hours of upper-level coursework (300-level or above).
