The School of Medical Laboratory Science at the James Cook School of Medicine is designed to prepare students for the ever-changing landscape of the field of laboratory science. We are divided into SIX academic departments within the School. Departments of Clinical Pathology, Haematology, Histopathology, Clinical Chemistry, Medical Microbiology & Immunology.

Medical laboratory scientists serve a more vital role than ever before in the care of patients, thanks to increasingly sophisticated diagnostic technology tools and a better understanding of human pathology.

As a student of our program, you will develop the critical thinking skills required to adapt and take advantage of evolving methods to detect and diagnose diseases and monitor patients' progress.

We welcome students with enthusiasm for scientific understanding and a personal work ethic conducive to quality laboratory practices.

OUR PROGRAMS

THE 4-YEAR BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE (BSMLS) COURSE

The 4-Year Bachelor of Science (BS) program in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) at the James Cook School of Medicine is aimed at quality performance of Clinical Laboratory procedures on biological samples from patients.

The results of these procedures provide important patient data that aid the physician in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

The medical laboratory science curriculum offered at JCSM provides a broadly based background including specific chemistry, mathematics, and biological science requirements, as well as the opportunity to elect courses from the liberal arts.
