James Cook School of Medicine is chartered and accredited by the Government of Cook Islands As a Comprehensive University we have the authority to confer both Undergraduate and Postgraduate degrees in our Various disciplines.

We are also accredited to award Specialist Postgraduate Medical, Dental & Pharmaceutical, Nursing, Science e.t.c. Certifications to deserving Doctors, Dentists, Pharmacists, Nurses e.t.c..

JCSM is also registered with the Ministry of Education of the Cook Islands

The Cook Islands Medical and Dental Council approved the eligibility of the James Cook School of Medicine graduates to practice medicine in Cook Islands.

The Cook Islands Nursing Council approved the eligibility of the James Cook School of Medicine Nursing graduates to practice Nursing in Cook Islands

The James Cook School of Medicine is approved and recognized by the Medical Council of New Zealand. This enable our graduates to take Licensure Examination and practice as Physicians in New Zealand.

The James Cook School of Medicine is approved and recognized by the Dental Council of New Zealand This enable our graduates to take Licensure Examination and practice as Dentists in New Zealand

The James Cook School of Medicine is approved and recognized by the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand. This enable our graduates to take Licensure Examination and practice as Pharmacists in New Zealand

The James Cook School of Medicine is approved and recognized by the Nursing Council of New Zealand This enable our graduates to take Licensure Examination and practice as Nurses in New Zealand

JCSM is recognized by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). This grants our students the right to take all three steps of the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE). All Steps must be passed to enter Medical Residency and become a practicing Physician in the U.S.

JCSM is currently listed in the World Directory of Medical School (WDOMS) which has been developed through a partnership between the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) and the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) In collaboration with the World Health Organization and the University of Copenhagen. This Directory replaces Avicenna directory previously maintained by World Health Organization and International Medical Education Directory Maintained by FAIMER.

JCSM's Medical Graduates are Accepted by UK’s General Medical Council (GMC) The General Medical Council (GMC) helps to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students and doctors. The GMC supports them in achieving (and exceeding) those standards, and take action when they are not met. This means that any doctor awarded a primary medical qualification from JCSM will be able to apply to sit the PLAB test and for GMC registration, without having their qualification individually assessed.

JCSM is recognized by the Medical Council of Canada and Graduates are eligible for Licensure in Canada.

The James Cook School of Medicine is approved and recognized by the Australian Medical Council. This enables our graduates (Doctors) to take the Australian Medical Licensure examination, a requirement to practice as a Physician in Australia upon graduation.

JCSM is recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and graduates are eligible to sit for MCI’s Screening Test.

The James Cook School of Medicine is approved and recognized by the Australian Dental Council. This enables our graduates (Dentists) to take the Australian Dental Licensure examination, a requirement to practice as a Dentist in Australia upon graduation.

The James Cook School of Medicine is approved and recognized by the Australian Pharmacy Council. This enables our graduates (Pharmacists) to take the Australian Pharmaceutical Licensure examination, a requirement to practice as a Pharmacist in Australia upon graduation.

The James Cook School of Medicine is approved and recognized by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. This enables our graduates to take the Australian Nursing Licensure examination, a requirement to practice as a Nurse in Australia upon graduation.

Graduates are eligible to participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

JCSM Graduates are eligible to participate in the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS).

Our Postgraduate Medical/Specialist Trainee Program (Vocational Training Programs) and the Cook College of Physicians and Surgeons is recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Graduate Medical Education. This recognition enables our Specialist Doctors/Consultants eligible to apply for Clinical Fellowship programs in the U.S.

Our Postgraduate Medical Vocational/Specialist Trainee Program, is recognized by the General Medical Council (GMC) of the UK. Our Consultants can apply for specialist licensure in the UK either through the CCT, CESR, FRCS or FRCP pathways.

Our Postgraduate Medical Vocational/ Specialist Trainee Program (Vocational Training Programs) is also recognized by the Australian Medical Council and Medical Council of New Zealand our Consultants can apply for specialist licensure in any of the above listed countries through the FRACS/FRCS pathways. 

Our Postgraduate Medical Vocational/Specialist Trainee Program, is also recognised by the Certain Residency and Fellowship programs in the United States, Medical council of Canada, Medical Council of India for Specialist registration in these countries once eligibility requirements are met by doctors.

Our recognition in the UK, Canada, Australia, India enables our Doctors (Consultants) to sit for the prescribed specialist examination in any of the countries listed above so as to qualify to practice as Specialist Doctors/Consultant in those countries.

Our Vocational/Specialist Trainee Programs are also recognized by the RCP, RCS, RACP, RACS, RCPSC, ACS and the ACP.
